John Bohnen
These are excerpts from a series of emails from John Bohnen:
Lungs:
...the original read "nathan kaatrud exists. lyle preslar does
too." This was edited in the reissue, apparently due to the feud between
Steve and Nathan Kaatrud, who is, of course, National Kato of Urge Overkill.
Sound of Impact:
You correctly identified "Sound of Impact" as an official product, as it
was put together by the band and released by Blast First disguised as a
bootleg. You may not know, however, that Blast First put out a second
pressing without the band's permission, or their knowledge until it showed up
in stores. The second pressing is, effectively, a bootleg and isn't numbered,
as the first one is.
...Steve told everyone he was going to ceremonially burn the
$5000 Paul Smith offered him for compensation for the "bootleg" version...
Rema Rema:
...the test pressings of "Rema Rema" came in an entirely different sleeve, a color Xeroxed
photo of a Dinka warrior standing next to a basketball player. I believe it
said something like "Special Dinka edition." I have no idea where you'd find
one of those.
Photography Credits on Headache poster:
I didn't take that photo of them standing in City Hall, although I wish I
had. I was surprised and flattered to see it (and my name) years later while
paging through that Chuck Eddy book at a Supercrown. I have no idea how my
stamp got on it.
...the photo stamp on the poster and the other two photos was mine. I
had it made because fanzines kept screwing up my name. I just don't know how
it got on that one photo; I think Steve cut it off another one and pasted it
on, but I don't know why.
